Windows Troubleshooting FAQQ:
The KeyScrambler tray icon is yellow and it says "KeyScrambler is Inactive," why?
A: It indicates that you're currently not in a protected application. (See protected applications)
Q:
KeyScrambler is showing a red popup saying "Encryption module error," what should I do?
A: If you haven't restarted your computer after installing or updating KeyScrambler, please do so.
If you have Kaspersky 2009 or ThreatFire installed, please pause it, run the KeyScrambler installer again and reboot your computer. You can then resume Kaspersky or ThreatFire after the installation.
Q:
KeyScrambler didn't get installed or didn't get updated in Firefox, what should I do?
A: Start Firefox and click "File -> Open File" and open the file "C:\Program Files\KeyScrambler\getting_started.html". Click on the installation link within and you'll be prompted to install "keyscrambler.xpi". Restart Firefox and you should have KeyScrambler installed.
Q:
KeyScrambler Personal does not start when Internet Explorer is started, what should I do?
A: You may have to enable browser extensions in IE for KeyScrambler to work. To do so, click on "Tools -> Internet Options" in IE, then select the "Advanced" tab. About half way down the list of options, there's an item called "Enable third-party browser extensions". If this option isn't checked, check it and restart IE. KeyScrambler should then start with the browser.
If it still doesn't start, click on "Tools -> Manage add-ons -> Enable or disable add-ons," and make sure that the items "KeyScrambler..." and "CKeyScramblerBHO Object" are both enabled.
Q:
How do I make KeyScrambler Personal run in Internet Explorer 8's InPrivate mode?
A: Click on "Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy" in IE8 and then uncheck "Disable toolbars and extensions when InPrivate browsing starts". (You do not need to do this if you're running KeyScrambler Pro or Premium because Pro and Premium do not run as IE extensions and automatically work in InPrivate mode).
Q:
I can't find KeyScrambler Personal's tray icon when I'm running Internet Explorer under Windows Vista or Windows 7.
A: Internet Explorer runs in "Protected Mode" by default in Vista and Windows 7, which means that IE is restricted in a number of ways, including access to the system tray. As a result, IE add-ons like KeyScrambler Personal that run as part of IE process are restricted also. This is why KeyScrambler Personal can't display the tray icon when it's running in IE under Vista or Windows 7. (This restriction does not apply to KeyScrambler Pro and Premium.)
KeyScrambler For Windows FAQQ:
Why do I need KeyScrambler?
A: Keyloggers are the fastest growing form of information theft on the Internet. They invade users' computers through viruses, worms, and other malware, which silently log keystrokes to steal usernames and passwords. The stolen information is then used to steal money and identity from the victims. By having KeyScrambler encrypt everything you type on your computer, you're protected against both known and unknown keyloggers. (Learn more about KeyScrambler)
Q:
How do I know KeyScrambler is working as claimed?
A: You can read the tests done by experts and bloggers on our website. You can download any number of commercial keyloggers from sites such as CNet's Download.com for your own testing (most of these have a free trial period). For your own testing, you can also download Anti-Keylogger Tester, which is free at http://www.snapfiles.com/get/antikeyloggertester.html
Q:
I have anti-spyware and anti-virus software installed. Do I still need KeyScrambler?
A: Yes, and this is why: There are tens of thousands of keyloggers and new ones are appearing all the time. Most anti-spyware and anti-virus programs may not be able to detect new viruses and worms because they have to be updated to recognize them, which means that they often work after the fact and may not be able to stop theft in time. KeyScrambler protects all the time. It defeats existing and new keyloggers by making your keystrokes indecipherable to spyware.
Q:
Do I have to turn KeyScrambler on and off each time?
A: No, KeyScrambler is automatically enabled whenever you log on to a protected application. If you want to turn it off temporarily, you can double click the KeyScrambler tray icon. You can also use the hotkey combination (Ctr+Shift+k) to toggle it. (See other ways of turning KeyScrambler on and off)
Q:
Can I hide the overlay window?
A: Yes. Click on Tools in the browser menu, select KeyScrambler, and the options window will pop up. Select from the options after Show to hide the overlay window or tray icon. In the same window you can also change the location of the overlay on your screen.
Q:
What are the differences between KeyScrambler Personal, KeyScrambler Professional, and KeyScrambler Premium?
A: The major difference is in the number of protected applications. Click here for an overview of the three products.
Q:
I thought KeyScrambler was digitally signed, but when installing on Firefox it says "unsigned." Why?
A: Firefox currently does not include the chain of certificates necessary to verify QFX Software's digital signature, so we could not sign the Firefox extension package "keyscrambler.xpi". However, the KeyScrambler components within are still digitally signed. You can verify this: After your installation, right-click on "keyscrambler.sys" or "keyscramblerie.dll" and look in the "Digital Signatures" tab. The company's signature should be shown.
Q:
Do I have to pay for KeyScrambler Pro or Premium every year, like with other security software?
A: No, you can use the version of KeyScrambler you purchase for as long as you like without having to pay again. You will receive free upgrades for at least one year.
